Become a County Public Health Commissioner

Commission membership is open to all county residents. The Public Health Commission (PHC) seeks new members who support improving the health and well-being of county residents and reflect the ethnic and geographic diversity of the county.

The PHC can have up to twenty-five (25) members. Each Board of Supervisor Member appoints four (4) members. The PHC nominates five (5) At-Large members. The Board of Supervisors (BoS) approve ALL members. Members serve for two (2) years with a maximum tenure which reflects current Board policy.

PHC members must comply with California Conflict of Interest laws (Government Code sections 1090 &  87100) and other applicable California conflict of interest laws.

How to Apply

To apply for a Board Appointed Seat, click here, to view the PHC page on the BoS Commissions website. Click on the "Members" button, to see which seats are vacant.

To apply, register first, then fill out and submit the online application. BoS staff will review your application and arrange an interview in the district where you live. 

​

To apply for an At-Large position, complete the online application using this link, or download the At-Large Application and send it to the address listed on the application.

AUTHORITY

Established June 19, 1979 by resolution number 183410, as the Public Health Advisory Committee. The name was change by amendment of their Bylaws on July 1, 2008 and September 27, 2016.
